I have been technically vetting candidates for a while now, and I find that almost every person that I talk to lies on their resume. It is sad that I have to go back to our recruiting team every time with news that the candidate had experience on their resume to reflect what the job requirements are, however they did not actually know the topic areas.
Here is one example:
ME: You have worked with threads before, right?
Candidate: Yes. I have 5 years doing so.
ME: Ok, What class would you use for a list of values that can be access by multiple threads? Why?
Candidate: Um…Uh, ThreadStart.
ThreadStart? Really? That is not even close.
I just get frustrated with people lying on their resumes just to get in the door. I would rather have someone mention in a interview that they have “played” with technology instead of saying that they have experience with it.
Hopefully the candidates will get better.
